Cathy Vigo—Community Voice

Artista que ha dedicado su vida a la educación y a la cultura como: bailarina, teatrera, zanquera, actriz y maestra. Fundadora y co-directora artística, del grupo teatral Agua, Sol y Sereno (ASYS) desde 1993 hasta el presente; trabajado la dramaturgia del actor y la conceptualización para las piezas que ha puesto en escena ASYS, con las que ha viajado a festivales de teatro en España, Cuba, Estados Unidos, Brasil y Venezuela. Posee un bachillerato en Educación Elemental con certificación en Bellas Artes de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Recinto de Río Piedras. Comienza su carrera como bailarina en Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico y luego con Ballets de San Juan; con ambas compañías participa del repertorio clásico y neo clásico. Incursionó en la danza moderna y experimental con los coreógrafos: Glorín Llompart, Awilda Sterling, Oscar Mestey y Petra Bravo participando en festivales y en los Encuentros de Danza Moderna. Trabajó por 24 años en la Escuela Especializada de Ballet Julián E. Blanco del Departamento de Educación como maestra de ballet clásico y teatro. En 1994, fundó la Academia Ballet Danza en Caguas, que codirige hasta el presente. Como actriz y titiritera, ha colaborador con la compañía Bread & Puppet Theater en Vermont participando de giras internacionales en Corea, Italia, Escocia, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, Canadá, así como todo el este y oeste de los Estados Unidos. En el cine ha participado en varias películas, entre ellas “Under Suspicion” (1991), “Ché” (2008) y como protagonista de la película puertorriqueña “El Clown” en la cual intervino con los textos del guión. Además de ser la coreógrafa de ASYS, ha conceptualizado y participado en la creación de talleres, comparsas y residencias artísticas en y fuera de Puerto Rico.

Cathy is an artist who has dedicated her life to education and culture as a dancer, theater artist, stilt walker, actress and teacher. Founder and co-artistic director of the theater group Agua, Sol y Sereno (ASYS) from 1993 to the present; He worked on the dramaturgy and conceptualization of the actor for the pieces that ASYS has staged, with which he has traveled to theater festivals in Spain, Cuba, the United States, Brazil and Venezuela. He has a bachelor’s degree in Primary Education with a certification in Fine Arts from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus. She began her career as a dancer in the Ballet Concerto of Puerto Rico and then with the Ballets de San Juan; With both companies he participates in the classical and neoclassical repertoire. She ventured into modern and experimental dance with the choreographers: Glorín Llompart, Awilda Sterling, Oscar Mestey and Petra Bravo, participating in festivals and Modern Dance Meetings. She worked for 24 years at the Julián E. Blanco Specialized Ballet School of the Department of Education as a classical ballet and theater teacher. In 1994 he founded the Ballet Dance Academy in Caguas, which he co-directs to this day. As an actress and puppeteer, she has collaborated with the Bread & Puppet Theater company of Vermont, participating in international tours in Korea, Italy, Scotland, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia, Canada, as well as throughout the eastern and western United States. In cinema he has participated in several films, including “Under suspicion” (1991), “Ché” (2008) and as the protagonist of the Puerto Rican film “El Payaso” in which he participated with the texts of the script. In addition to being a choreographer for ASYS, she has conceptualized and participated in the creation of workshops, troupes and artistic residencies inside and outside Puerto Rico.
